Our silk slip-ons are inspired by the National bird of India, the Peacock. Strikingly beautiful, the peacock’s vivid colours are synonymous with Indian culture.
Indian peafowls were initially indigenous to the Indian Subcontinent but have now been introduced to other parts of the world over the ages. Peacocks derive their iridescent colours from a combination of pigments and photonic crystals, causing the feathers to reflect different wavelengths of light. The 200 display feathers form an ancient Indian symbol of mysticism and beauty. Although it is legal to trade in the shed feathers from the peacock, India’s national bird benefits from the highest level of legal protection under India’s Wildlife Protection Act, akin to the elephant and tiger.
We have recreated the optical phenomena of the peacock’s tail feathers by combining blue and golden thread with tiny green beads, hand stitched on delicate silver silk.
Note: Designed according to the Indian tradition, what makes your Indys so comfortable is that rather than having a left or a right shoe, they naturally take the shape of your foot, over time.
Inspired by the North Indian Jutti shoes, Indys are conceived in the UK and handcrafted by India’s finest artisans. Versatile, they can transition from day to night looks, and are extremely comfortable. As Indys mould to your feet over time, it feels like every shoe was tailored just for you. The handmade nature of our process makes every pair unique, and exclusively yours.
